What are Veneers and Lumineers®?

Custom-made shells, known as veneers and Lumineers®, are applied to the front of teeth to enhance their appearance. These shells, crafted from porcelain or composite resin, address various cosmetic dental issues such as discoloration, chips, misalignment, and gaps between teeth.

The primary difference between veneers and Lumineers® lies in their thickness. Veneers are thicker and necessitate more preparation of the tooth surface. In contrast, Lumineers® are ultra-thin and typically require minimal to no tooth preparation, making them a less invasive option for those looking to improve their smile without significantly altering their natural teeth.

Receiving Veneers or Lumineers involves several steps

The process of getting veneers or Lumineers® typically involves two to three visits to our dental office. Here's a breakdown of the steps involved:

  1. Consultation: During your initial visit, our dental professionals will evaluate your teeth and gums, discuss your goals and concerns, and determine if veneers or Lumineers® are the best options for you.
  2. Tooth Preparation: If you choose veneers, we will prepare your teeth by removing a thin layer of enamel to accommodate them. Lumineers® typically do not require this step.
  3. Impression: After tooth preparation, we will take an impression to create a custom-made veneer or Lumineer® that fits perfectly.
  4. Bonding: During your final appointment, we will bond the veneer or Lumineer® to your tooth using special dental cement. A special light will be used to harden the sealant and secure the veneer or Lumineer® in place.

Benefits of Veneers and Lumineers®

Veneers and Lumineers® offer numerous benefits, including:

  • Enhanced appearance: Both options can significantly improve the look of your teeth, helping you achieve the smile you've always desired.
  • Long-lasting: Made of durable materials, veneers and Lumineers® can last for many years with proper care.
  • Stain-resistant: These options resist stains and discoloration, ensuring your smile remains bright and white.
  • Natural-looking: Custom-made to match your natural teeth, veneers and Lumineers® provide a natural-looking result.

The main difference between the two is the thickness of the material used. Veneers are thicker and require more tooth preparation, while Lumineers® are ultra-thin and minimally invasive, making them an excellent option for those looking to transform their smile without altering their natural teeth.
